There's a lot people would do in the name of fitness, but we never thought we'd see the day when that would include eating dog food. But that day has come.
That's right, fitness influencers on TikTok have found themselves intrigued by their dogs' dinner due to the staggeringly high amount of protein that's in dog food.
One TikToker in particular, fitness influencer Henry Clarisey (@henry.fit), uploaded a stitch that claimed that a 200-gram serving of dog food has 666 grams of protein. He then let his followers know that if he gets 15,000 likes he would eat a bowl of dog food.
Welp, needless to say, he received 2.5 million likes.
In his follow-up video, which has received nearly 3 million views, the TikToker attempted to down a handful of dog food—but things quickly went south.
"It's not worth it, I promise you guys. It's not worth it," Clarisey explained while spitting out the dog food.
He later revealed to BuzzFeed News that the dog food—Kibbles ’n Bits, to be exact—was quite terrible.
“The dog food tasted extremely dry. Needed so much water after eating it,” Clarisey said in an email to BuzzFeed News. “Tasted like little pieces of dirt and I definitely don’t think it was worth it. Even though it’s a lot of protein, I’d take steak or protein powder.”
In addition to its unpleasant taste, eating dog food does come with additional risks.
According to a report from Healthline, "Just because you can eat dog food, doesn’t mean you should," because there is an increased risk of developing food-borne illness. The report also noted that dog food can contain vitamin K3 (menadione), a synthetic vitamin can be potentially toxic to humans in high doses.
We promise there are much better (and tastier) ways of getting enough protein.
